Zoofs, and other third party apps, have always been one step ahead of YouTube, when it comes to letting users know which videos are the most popular on the video sharing website. While Zoofs was able to show you which YouTube videos were the most popular on Twitter, YouTube has finally caught up, and one-upped them, showing users what is trending right now on YouTube.
With the recently launched Trends Dashboard, you can see the most shared or most viewed videos. And they have added an interesting dimension, showing you a little bit more about the viewers’ demographics.
YouTube Trends allows you to create up to three comparison lists of the most popular videos based on location, age and gender. Specific locations are limited to major US cities and a list of 24 countries including South Africa, Taiwan, India and the United Kingdom amongst others.
Trends seem to be the catchphrase of the year, with each major social website from Facebook to Twitter releasing data on which topics have been most popular with their users throughout the year, so it’s no surprise that YouTube is getting in on the game as well. On their trends blog it’s interesting to see what topics are trending on YouTube at any given time.
The blog also features posts with the four most buzzed about videos of the day.
