Pakistan Govt Sites Hacked; No Respite From Cyber Attacks

Cyber attacks against government websites are increasingly becoming more common. The most recent victim was the Pakistani government, where 35 government websites were hacked on Tuesday. The Pakistan government's websites came under cyber attack from a group proclaiming itself as the "Indian Cyber Army".

The Hindustan Times reported that most of the hacked Pakistani government websites were restored soon after. The report further said the hackers who got access to the servers hosting the Pakistan government's websites left a message that read "Hacked by Indian Cyber Army."

Gartner forecasts more destructive cyber attacks by 2015

It appears the Pakistan government's websites being hacked isn't an isolated incident. In a recent report from Gartner, the state of online cyber attacks against businesses (and governments) is only going to get worse.

"By 2015, a G20 nation's critical infrastructure will be disrupted and damaged by online sabotage. Online attacks can be multimodal, in the sense of targeting multiple systems for maximum impact, like financial system, (stock exchanges) physical plant (control systems of a chemical, nuclear or electric plant), or mobile communications (mobile message routers)," Managing Vice-President and Gartner fellow Darryl Plummer said in a report released earlier today in the Economic Times.
